Designer's Tips

The island had to provide everything the clients required but not overpower the space. They also wanted one side to be a display area, so curves were introduced to soften the corners and glazed base units and curved open shelving create a dresser-style façade to the island.

Using integrated appliances creates a streamlined look.

Design Brief

A new extension revitalised the existing kitchen and created a large social space. The focus of the design was centred around the large island unit, which was to be the main food preparation area. The use of curved ends softened off the walkways to and from the dining table. Eight large pan drawers and several different pull-out mechanisms provided the customer with easy access to food, crockery and cooking items. A full suite of integral appliances replaced existing free-standing models and created a streamlined room. However the use of wine racks, plate racks and display cupboards added interest.
