Designer's Tips
Using a different material for a breakfast bar can look really effective. The circular Wenge top used is this design was also thicker than the Quartz worktop to create an added dimension.
Â
Ceiling mounted extractor hoods offer a new option for hobs positioned within an island or peninsular. Using these instead of traditional chimney extractor hoods maintains the open plan feel of a kitchen.

A generous extension created a large living kitchen that was now proportional to the property. The new kitchen had to be the centre of the home, a social space that conformed to modern living. At first an island unit was considered, however this failed to provide the worktop space needed and narrowed walkways. Therefore we designed a peninsular feature that provided ample storage space and generous preparation surfaces. A shaped timber breakfast bar positioned on one corner would allow the family to congregate around the main cooking zone. The peninsular served a secondary purpose by creating a natural division between the kitchen and a lounge area. A large American style fridge freezer was housed in between tall pull-out larder units, linking it with the main kitchen. The large induction hob was extended with a matching Domino wok burner and vented from an extractor, cleverly disguised in the ceiling. These were complemented by a combination microwave, single oven and warming drawer. The warm Izari cabinets were contrasted with white quartz worktops and a white polished porcelain floor.
